Tips & Trends > Your Party Theme

  1. Select a theme according to the personality, interests and age of the child (i.e. a shy child will not want a performer who is going to make him or her the center of attention).

  2. If you are choosing an entertainer that you've never seen, ask if they have references or a video you can view (see our interview questions).

  3. Entertainment should always be age appropriate.

  4. For small children, be sure you do not have something that may scare them such as a costume character or clown. If you have a clown, ask them to put their makeup on in front of the children.

  5. Decorations make the atmosphere of the party. Start by matching the theme of your party with paper goods and a custom cake.

  6. Set the cake out as a decoration so everyone can enjoy it.

  7. Balloons also make a room festive. Decorate the party table by attaching a balloon to each chair so that at the end of the party, each can take home a balloon.

Goody bags / Games:

  1. Party favors should be age appropriate. Avoid small pieces for toddlers. Read the packaging of the favor; some have age guides as a reference.

  2. Contests held should end up with everyone a winner - de-emphasize games of elimination. Contests should reflect the strengths of your child.

  3. Be sure to have extra party favors on hand for that unexpected guest. Generally 5 extras is a safe bet.
