The creation of this site has been a trip in nostalgia... gathering pictures of past parties and having them come alive again has been one of the most exciting aspects of developing Partymakers.com.

What is so interesting is that the parties we have created over the years are still as exciting today. They are children's' classics.

I have always enjoyed working with and creating for children.

When I was in high school, I worked summers as a recreation leader on playgrounds in Oceanside, Long Island.

My education reinforced my experience with children, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education from Hofstra University and a Masters in Guidance Counseling from Columbia University Teachers College.

Upon graduation from Columbia, I taught at the elementary level in the New York public school system.

When my son Mitchell entered kindergarten at public school 158 in Manhattan, I became a volunteer program committee chairman, utilizing the talents of parents and members of the community to bring enrichment programs to the classrooms.

It was during the course of my four years involvement at Mitchell's school, that the idea for Birthdaybakers Partymakers was born.

I was planning a cooking class fund raising event with another parent, Mina Greenstein, when I suddenly realized that I had not planned my daughter's birthday party, which was less than 3 weeks away. Panic set in. I needed an instant idea...

Mina was a caterer, so I asked her if she would be interested in baking and decorating a cake with my daughter and friends for her party. Mina agreed.

The party was such an enormous success that parents asked if I could do this party for their children. That was the beginning of Birthdaybakers Partymakers.

The original recipe was from a cake flour box. I wanted to improve that recipe so that not only would the cake look great, but it should taste great as well. I also wanted the recipe to be relatively simple so that the children would be able to participate in the baking process.

I made contact with Rose Levy Berenbaum the owner of the Cordon Rose cooking school. She agreed to develop a recipe, which would meet my needs. The cakes received rave reviews from all the parties to follow.

We certainly had the best advice, as years later Rose wrote an award winning best selling book entitled "The Cake Bible."

From the original bake a cake party, we developed over 70 different party themes with the same underlying philosophy: emphasizing the involvement of the children as part of the party entertainment.

Our company grew. We averaged about 500 parties a year, held either in our party room or in homes or other locations throughout the city.

Today, we have consolidated our business, offering children's parties at two New York City Landmarks, the Central Park Wildlife Center and the American Museum of Natural History. We are also creating and coordinating parties for corporate family events.

Partymakers.com is the result of the suggestion and help of my now grown and married daughter Marcy, who has a new media business of her own. She assisted in launching the site in 1996.

My husband, Bill, has also been a major influence, always encouraging my creativity as well as offering his advice on the business and creative sides of both Birthdaybakers Partymakers and the development of Partymakers.com.

The re-launch of Partymakers this spring is a reflection of today's technology .We will constantly be adding both new and exclusive products, introducing you to experts in the many different areas of party planning, building our database of entertainers and locations and with your help adding to our entertainer and location reviews so other parents can benefit from your personal experience.

A birthday party generally lasts from 60-120 minutes. You can add to the party time by considering the planning of the party as part of the party itself. I think children love to be involved. Take a moment to visit Partymakers.com with your child so that they can take part in selecting their themes and party designs.

I hope you will find Partymakers.com informative, helpful and fun.

Look forward to hearing any suggestions from you...
